November 22 saw the start of the Group Stage, where eight teams had qualified after an almost eight month long qualifier. November 9 saw the start of the Playoffs which pitted the six qualified teams against each other.
The Group Stage consisted of two double elimination (GSL format) brackets where the opening matches were Best of one (Bo1) and the following matches were Best of three (Bo3). The Playoffs consisted of a single elimination bracket and all matches were Bo3.
The winner of the Grand Final would take home $250,000 and the runner-up would take $120,000
What happened in the Group Stage?
Group A showed the early on expected results. Group A on face-value had one of the hardest line ups to face consisting of Astralis, MiBR, mouz and Cloud9.
Following on from that, Group B showed the most promise for teams to prove their worth, with Team Liquid, NiP, North and NRG Esports.
No time was wasted in Group A, with Astralis and MiBR showing early dominance throughout the matches, with MiBR progressing to the Playoffs, defeating mouz and Astralis.
Group B caused the biggest upset for many. Liquid losing both again North and NRG meant they were out of the competition and unfortunately NRG couldn’t make the cut either.

What happened in the Semi-finals?
Train started how it finished with MiBR steamrolling their way through the map, only dropping two rounds through both halves. Inferno was North’s time to shine, with all but Kjaerbye hitting above the K/D ratio, they made light work whilst on Counter-Terrorists (CT) on cleaning up the game, eventually winning the map 16:8.
Dust2 was North’s downfall, having only won three rounds by the time the first half ended, it seemed near impossible for them to make a comeback and whilst they did start to pull it back, MiBR decided it was time to put it to rest, eventually winning the map 16:9 pushing them through to the finals.

NiP found the early pistol round but unfortunately they couldn’t seem to pull the first half back, with Astralis going 10:5. The second half’s events reflected much of the first, as NiP couldn’t seem to identify any weaknesses in Astralis’ strategy, only managing to win two rounds before Astralis closed out the game at 16:7.
You would have assumed that NiP would have been demoralised coming into this match which showed early on but they managed to claw back the map, going 16:11 on Train but they couldn’t reflect this on Inferno where Astralis only dropped two rounds by the end of the first half, eventually going 16:5.

What happened in the Grand Final?
One of the best matches of the tournament turned out to also be the final between Astralis and MiBR.
Both teams played well and MiBR almost feel like they’ve figured out how to defeat the star squadron. Having known Astralis’ track record on Nuke, MiBR opted to veto the map, eventually leaving them with Inferno, Overpass and Mirage to play with.
Inferno
Astralis came to play on Inferno by winning the early pistol and the first few rounds, but MiBR knew they had to kick it into second gear and gain as many rounds as they could, eventually leaving the scores 7:8. Astralis didn’t let that deter them, starting out strongly by winning five rounds back to back.
FalleN wasn’t about to let himself be held back, having been one of the strongest players in the match, having 28 kills and 15 deaths, he turned into a wrecking ball for MiBR where they almost pulled the game back going 14:15.
Astralis forced into the eco, using only pistols and utility weapons, MiBR tried to rush the A bomb site only for the entire team to get caught by smoke, awaiting device, and Magisk - who managed to take the entirety of MiBR down in one fell swoop winning them the map 16:14.

In what appeared to be the most epic conclusion to ECS Season 6 - Finals, both teams were going toe to toe until the very end.
The first half mirrored the events of the previous map, with the scores going 8:7 in Astralis’ favour. However the second half is where MiBR started to pull away with the match, going 15:11 before Astralis pulled it back to 15:15, forcing the overtime in Match Round three (MR3) at $10,000
With each team now not wanting to give the other a single round advantage, it could have been either team’s game - but players on both sides were making mistakes, and even with Tarik’s 1 vs. 4 it seemed like MiBR couldn’t bring it back. Finally, Astralis eventually closed out the finals, going 22:20.
